Useful Info

1. To Find The Volume Of Your Pond.

Rectangular:

Length  x  Breadth  x  Depth - In metres

If Sloping floor take the median depth.

Circular:

½  Diameter  x  ½ Diameter  x  Depth  x  3.142.   in metres

To convert to litres.

1 Cubic Metre = 1,000 litres = 1 Tonne Of Water.

Odd Shaped Ponds.

Set the hose and time the water into something like a garbage can of known volume.

Time to fill will represent this much volume.

Time (T) needed to fill pond divided by the basic unit (BU)

Will give the volume. T divided by BU = V.

Or Check water meter reading before and after filling pond.

Then  take first reading from second reading.  Eg  First reading 322476  after filling 328971

328971 – 322476  =  6495 litres   ( On some meters the last digit is tenths of a litre)

You now have the number of litres in you pond.

2. To Find The Surface Area Needed For A Gravel Media  Filter.

Ideal Flow Rate = 30 litres/M2/Minute.
Minimum Daily Turn Over Of Water.
3 Times Per 24 Hours.  i.e. Every 8 Hours.
Ideal Rate. 6 Times.   i.e. Every 4 Hours.
Pond Capacity. 24,000 litres.
Hourly Turn Overrate. 6000 litres.
Turn Over Per Minute.  100 litres.
100 divided by 30 = 3.333
Therefore Surface Area Of Filter  3.3m2

3. To Convert Useful Imperial Measures To Metric.

100 Galls.                   =  450 Litres
1,000 Galls.                = 45,000 Litres
Household Bucket.      =  10 litres (2 ½ Gallons )

4. Useful Oddments

1 ml of water weighs 1 Gram
Metric Teaspoon          = 5ml
Metric Tablespoon       =   10ml
Metric Cup                  = 250ml

5. Medicinal Dosages.

1 P.P.M.     = 1 part per million
                  = 1 milligram per litre
                  = 1 gram per 1,000 litres
10% With Water. 90% + Water + 10% Medication

10% In Water.

100% Water + 10% Medication
